The Zamfara State Government has cleared a ₦1 billion debt owed to the Kaduna Electric Distribution Company (KEDCO) and expanded the mandate of its newly established Electrification Agency.

Executive Secretary of the Zamfara Electrification Agency (ZEA), Muzammil Idris, said on Thursday that the move aims to boost power supply across all 14 LGAs, especially to unserved and underserved communities.

Idris disclosed that a 10-year electrification plan has been drafted, with immediate efforts focused on restoring power and connecting areas currently off the national grid within three months. The agency also plans to implement a national metering policy to enhance service delivery and revenue generation.
