UNIZIK SUG Holds Tech Summit, Inaugurates Media Team.

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, hosted a tech-media literacy event themed “Beyond the Screen: Empowering Minds Through Tech and Media” yesterday.
The event, organized by the SUG Public Relations Office, brought together students, digital experts, and members of the student executive council.Keynote speaker Mazi Ejimofor Opara, PhD, National Publicity Secretary of APGA, emphasized the importance of purposeful digital engagement, urging students to understand how algorithms work and how media influences identity. He concluded with three powerful quotes: “Screen will always be a part of our lives, but we must not live inside them,” “The greatest technology ever created is the human mind,” and “Let the light of your ideas always shine beyond your skill.”
Other speakers included Oscar Azolibe, CEO of Apex Tech, who highlighted the power of digital skills, and Sophia Nwafor, a B2C content strategist and ghostwriter, who delivered an interactive session on mastering media literacy and monetization. Additional insights were shared by Mr. Aroh Stanley and Engineer Michael Chibueze on digital entrepreneurship and innovation.

The event featured various activities, including a dancing competition, spoken word performances, giveaways, and the inauguration of the SUG Media Team. Certificates were presented to the newly inaugurated team members, and awards of recognition were given to distinguished personalities.
In an interview, Stella Anaekwe, an attendee, shared her thoughts: “Screen will always be part of your life; it depends on how you use it and the usefulness you get out of it.” Erasmus Ndule, one of the newly inaugurated SUG Media Team members, expressed his gratitude after receiving his certificate: “The certificate means a lot to me because it recognized me for voluntary work over these past months. Today, I feel seen, I feel known.”
Comr. Fabulous Hillary, SUG Public Relations Officer, expressed gratitude to attendees for embracing a culture of learning, unlearning, and relearning in today’s tech-driven world. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, encouraging students to put into practice what they had learned.
