Umunya Community Urges Anambra State Government To Conduct Election For New Traditional Ruler For The Town

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Honourable Tony Collins Nwabunwanne has assured the people of Umunya in Oyi Local Government Area that due process will be followed in the conduct of election for a new traditional ruler for the community.
Honourable Nwabunne who gave the assurance when the people paid solidarity visit to Governor Chukwuma Soludo at the Government House in Awka, commended them for being peaceful and made it clear that Anambra State Government allows every community to choose their traditional ruler by themselves, saying that government had written to the leadership of Umunya Development Union to conduct election for offline of the traditional ruler of the community, assuring that state government will ensure that the right thing is done.
Earlier in his remarks, the leader of the people, Chief Sunday Ononeze alleged that the President General of the community,Chief Chinedu Ekwugha
has not conducted election for the office of the traditional ruler of Umunya as directed by state government even after the time frame given to him had elapsed, saying that he is working to amend the existing Umunya constitution that produced him as the President General of the community to pave way for the emergence of his prefered candidate for the election.
They urged the state government to conduct the election without wasting time as Umunya is due to have another traditional ruler, adding that further delays could result in crisis which could create a state of anarchy in the community.
