Tobi Adegboyega, a Nigerian pastor whose church was shut down due to an alleged £1.87 million fraud, has lost his appeal against deportation. The 44-year-old, cousin of actor John Boyega, had led SPAC Nation, a controversial church accused of financial mismanagement and lack of transparency. Despite claiming that his deportation would violate his human rights, particularly his right to family life, the immigration tribunal ruled in favor of his deportation. The Home Office presented evidence that Adegboyega’s church operated with serious financial concerns and allegations of exploitation, including encouraging young people to take out loans, commit fraud, or sell their blood. Adegboyega had overstayed his UK visitor visa since 2005 and had applied for permission to remain in 2019 under family life grounds. The tribunal rejected his claim, stating that his community work and the church’s general impact would not be significantly harmed by his departure, as much of his influence was deemed exaggerated.
