TETFund: Research Not Overlooked in Favor of Infrastructure

The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Sonny Echono, has clarified that the agency is not prioritizing physical infrastructure over research in tertiary institutions.
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja, Echono explained that while TETFund invests in fencing and other infrastructure, this is necessary due to security concerns.
He emphasized that the agency’s spending on security infrastructure, including fencing, is significantly lower than its investment in research. The fencing initiative, he noted, also helps prevent land encroachment in institutions.
Beyond infrastructure, Echono stated that TETFund remains committed to upgrading existing facilities and supporting overall institutional development. This year, the agency has focused on maintaining and improving existing structures rather than initiating new projects.
