South-South, South-East Professionals Demand Restoration of Rivers Democratic Institutions

The South-South, South-East Professionals of Nigeria (SESSPN) have condemned the suspension of democratic institutions in Rivers State following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of emergency rule.
The group has called for the immediate reinstatement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and elected lawmakers, warning that the crisis is discouraging foreign investment.
SESSPN’s Board of Trustees Chairman, Emeka Ugwu-Ojo, stated that investors who had shown interest in Rivers’ non-oil sectors are now shifting focus to Lagos due to the absence of a recognized government.
The group warned that the instability threatens major economic projects, including the Port Harcourt to Maiduguri Economic Corridor, and urged the federal government to restore democratic governance to prevent further economic damage.
