South Korea’s Ex-President Yoon Detained Again Over Coup Plot

Disgraced former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was detained Thursday for attempting to impose martial law in December 2024 to block his impeachment. Prosecutors cited fears of evidence tampering.

Yoon, 64, already on trial for insurrection, was placed in solitary confinement and could be held for up to six months. He denies all charges and claims political persecution.
