Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State announced that the state has surpassed the United Nations (UN) recommended student-to-teacher ratio, following the recent hiring of teachers. Soludo made this statement during the third anniversary of the IG Aguowo Health and Academic Foundation’s scholarship program, held at the International Convention Centre in Awka. Representing the governor at the event, Commissioner for Education Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh said, “With the recent teacher recruitment, Soludo has exceeded the UN’s recommended student-to-teacher ratio. Currently, Anambra’s ratio stands at 24 students per teacher in secondary schools and 21 pupils per teacher in primary schools. Our governor, who is a strong advocate for education, has ended the era of schools without teachers in Anambra State through these recent hirings. He is pleased with today’s event but is unable to attend as he is out of town.”

At the event, the IG Aguowo Health and Academic Foundation awarded scholarships to 670 students from 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The scholarship program, valued at N1 billion, was described as one of the largest in the country and was established by the foundation’s founder, Mr. Ignatius Aguowo.

During the event, the Executive Director of the Foundation, Mrs. Gloria Abanihe, emphasized, “The IG Aguowo Health and Academic Foundation was founded with a clear vision to close the educational gap and provide opportunities for talented and deserving students to pursue their dreams. We believe that education is the cornerstone of a prosperous and fair society, unlocking a brighter future for individuals and entire communities. This scholarship program is more than just financial aid; it is an investment in the future. By providing these scholarships, we not only ease the financial burden on deserving students and their families but also promote a culture of academic excellence, perseverance, and community service. Our scholars are selected not just for their academic accomplishments but also for their character, determination, and potential to become agents of change in society. Looking ahead, we are filled with optimism and commitment to expanding our efforts, reaching more students, and creating more opportunities for educational advancement in Nigeria.”
