Shell Paid Nigeria $5.34bn in 2024, Its Highest Worldwide

Shell Plc paid $5.34 billion to Nigeria in 2024 — its largest payment to any country — despite ongoing onshore divestments.
Most funds went to NNPC ($3.8bn), with others to FIRS, NUPRC, and NDDC, per Shell’s Payments to Governments report.
The total marks a sharp rise from $3.8bn in 2023 and led Shell’s $28.1bn global payout. Nigeria topped recipients ahead of Oman, Brazil, and Norway.
Shell is shifting focus to deepwater assets while under scrutiny in Nigeria over unremitted revenues and asset sales.
