Release Chiwetalu Agu now, Sack DSS Director – CD/HURIDE tells Buhari

The Campaign for Democracy (CD) South East Zone and Human Rights Liberty Access and Peace Defenders’Foundation ‘(HURIDE) have unequivocally condemned the continued incarceration of Nollywood actor , Chief Chiwetalu Agu, by operatives of Directorate of State Security (DSS)

In a joint Statement by the two human rights bodies, they said his continued detention by the DSS was a clear violation of his fundamental rights and act of glaring impunity.

In the statement signed by Dede Uzor A, Uzor, the Chairman of CD South East Zone and Executive Director HURIDE, wondered whether the law of the country designed and forbids any particular fabrics and dress code for Nigerians.

In the statement in Enugu, the Enugu State Capital, the right groups said the clothe worn by Agu which made soldiers of 302 Artillery regiment arrest him before DSS came their own does not have the inscription of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).

They said with this latest development, DSS should arrest anybody wearing clothes that has the colours of United States of America (USA), Ghana, Imo, Anambra among others.

The groups said : We call on the DSS leadership to immediately and unconditionally release Chief Agu and publicly apologise to him.

The likes of Sheik Gumi,are still free working in street, while Chief Agu is languishing in DSS detention facility for a crime not known by any Nigerian law”.

Continuing they said “We call on NIgerians to join us on Tuesday, the 19th day of October for a massive protest against the impunity of DSS” and Nigerian State.

The groups called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Director General of DSS without delay over this embarrassment to him and the county as well as order for the immediate release of the actor. Dede Uzor warned
