Promising Renovations: Acting Vice Chancellor Visits Old Girls Hostel

Yesterday, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Arinze-Umobi Chinyelugo Carol, paid a visit to the Old Girls Hostel.

The purpose of the visit was to listen to the students’ concerns regarding the hostel and its activities.Upon arrival, the students warmly welcomed her with the song “Mama you do good oo.”

During her address, Professor Chinyelugo asked the students to share their problems with the hostel. The students raised several issues, including the need for a steady water supply to the upper floors, clearing of bushes around the hostel to prevent rat infestation, and a request for a reduction in school fees, citing the example of the University of Benin, which charges around N48,000.One of the accompanying officials responded to the school fees comment, stating that “UNIZIK is a standard school.”

Other students requested hostel renovations, to which the Vice Chancellor promised to attend once the students vacate for the holiday, saying, “I have done some renovations in this hostel before, and I promise to do more renovations once you students leave for holiday.”

The Vice Chancellor also brought gifts, including trucks full of sanitary pads and toilet rolls, for the Old Girls Hostel and other hostels she planned to visit. The students were overjoyed and expressed their gratitude by chorusing “thank you so much ma.”

The Director of Socials for Block B, Mary, praised the Vice Chancellor’s efforts, saying, “She has done something like this in her last tenure, and I believe she’ll do more.” Another student added that the Vice Chancellor had listened to their concerns in the past and had brought steady light and water supply.

The sanitary pads were distributed to the girls who lined up, although some students seemed uninterested in collecting the gifts.
