The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed a fire outbreak on the Trans-Niger Delta Pipeline operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).

Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement on Tuesday, assured residents that the situation was under control. She stated that the fire was detected on Monday night during a security patrol, prompting officers to alert SPDC, which immediately shut down the affected pipeline and activated safety measures.

“There is no further threat to residents or the environment,” Iringe-Koko said.

While the cause of the fire remains unclear, she noted that an investigation is underway, and two individuals have been taken into custody for questioning to determine if sabotage was involved.
