PDP BoT: Tinubu’s reforms are driving millions further into poverty

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that President Bola Tinubu’s “poorly executed reforms” are worsening the poverty levels of millions of Nigerians. The BoT also expressed disappointment with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party for postponing the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting three times in a row. Senator Adolphus Wabara, the BoT Chairman, voiced these concerns during the opening remarks at the party’s emergency meeting in Abuja. It should be recalled that the NWC had announced the third postponement of the NEC meeting, with the latest delay involving the November 28, 2024, meeting. Wabara emphasized that the NWC, led by Amb. Umar Damagum, is eroding party members’ confidence by repeatedly delaying such an important meeting. Regarding the nation’s situation, Wabara stated, “The harsh economic policies of President Tinubu’s administration have worsened Nigerians’ hardships. The rising cost of living, alongside poorly implemented economic reforms, has pushed millions deeper into poverty. The promises of economic relief have proven to be empty, leaving many families struggling financially. Our party must offer credible alternatives and amplify the voices of the suffering populace.” He reiterated the party’s commitment to the values of fairness, equity, and prosperity for all Nigerians, while also calling for internal unity within the PDP. “We must focus on unity among our PDP governors,” he said. “The strength of our party lies in our collective effort, not in individual ambitions. We cannot allow personal interests to overshadow our shared vision for a better Nigeria.” He further emphasized that the governors are crucial to the PDP’s successes across states, and their cooperation is essential for the party’s advancement. Wabara concluded by stressing the importance of dialogue, collaboration, and shared responsibility, and assured that the BoT will continue to work for peace and unity within the party.
