… As Anambra NAWOJ celebrates Female Achievers

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, has emphasized the need for intentional efforts to achieve gender equality. He stressed that it’s crucial to ensure all girls and women have access to equal opportunities, resources, and support.

Odogwu made these remarks at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, during the International Women’s Day celebration organized by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Anambra State Chapter with the theme theme, “Accelerate Action for Gender Equality,” and sub-theme, “Projecting Anambra Women Achievers,” (Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow)

He also highlighted the importance of addressing systematic barriers and biases that have historically held women back, calling for deliberate and sustained action.

Earlier in her speech, the Anambra State Chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Tochukwu Ifejika spoke of the sacred roles of women in building a better society.
She noted that women participation In politics and other critical positions in the society cannot be over emphasized.

Ifejika called on the upcoming generation of women to look up to the likes of the late Prof.Dora Akunyili,Prof.Chinyere Okunna and other women achievers in the society to excel.

Highpoints on the occasion were the presentation of an award of excellence to Prof.Orogbu by the State Commissioner for Information Dr.Law Mefor who graced the occasion,and used the forum to felicitate with women on their celebration.

Others were the presentation of a posthumous award to the late Prof.Akunyili whose award was received by her son Obumneme Akunyili and an award of excellence to Dr.Dame Virgy Etiaba former Governor of Anambra State among others.
