A warning strike organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) brought activities in several ministries, departments, and agencies of the Kaduna State Government to a halt on Monday. The strike was initiated to press for the full implementation of the minimum wage. Kaduna State NLC Chairman, Comrade Ayuba Magaji Suleiman, had previously accused the state government of failing to implement the minimum wage. In response, the state government, through Governor’s Chief Press Secretary Malam Ibraheem Musa, denied the allegation, stating that the N75,000 minimum wage was paid as part of the October salary. Musa clarified that the issue at hand was not the minimum wage itself, but the lack of consequential adjustments. He urged patience, explaining that the state’s limited revenue—an average monthly allocation of N8 billion from the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) and N4 billion in internally generated revenue—made it challenging to implement the adjustments immediately. However, the NLC Chairman rejected the state’s explanation, confirming that no agreement had been reached during talks held on Saturday. “We will continue with the strike until our demands are met,” he stated.
