Nigeria Spends $19 Million Annually on Motorcycle Spare Parts Imports – NADDC Director-General

Nigeria imports approximately $19 million worth of motorcycle spare parts each year, according to Joseph Osanipin, Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC). Osanipin emphasized the need to reduce import dependency by promoting local manufacturing, with initiatives like the Nnewi Auto Industrial Park and local production of tyres and batteries. He also highlighted efforts to enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), reduce operational costs, and support small manufacturers through shared resources.
