The Lagos State Government has announced that the Adiyan II Water Treatment Plant, with a capacity of 70 million gallons per day, will be operational by the final quarter of 2027. This N5 billion project will complement the existing Adiyan I Plant, which supplies 3 million gallons daily, ensuring potable water access for the state’s estimated 24 million residents. During an inspection of the Adiyan II site along Agbado-Oke Aro Road near the Lagos-Ogun border, Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress. He noted, “With Adiyan II and other facilities like Iju, Adiyan I, and Ishasi, plus micro and mini waterworks supported by USAID and Water Aid, the majority of Lagos homes will have pipe-borne water by 2027.” Wahab highlighted the combined output of 100 million gallons per day from these facilities and praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to achieving full water supply capacity for the state. Project Manager Daniele Cifola emphasized that the timely release of funds is key to meeting the delivery schedule and disclosed that over 110 local workers have been employed, with plans to hire more. Meanwhile, the Lagos State Water Corporation (LSWC) recently boosted production from its Iju and Adiyan Waterworks. Managing Director Mukhtaar Tijani acknowledged that infrastructure upgrades might cause temporary water leaks but assured residents of prompt repairs. Residents can report leaks via LSWC helplines: 0704 597 3012, 0704 597 3013, 0703 320 7647, or 0703 326 1974.
