Members of the prestigious IBB International Golf and Country Club have commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the club’s Board of Trustees (BOT) led by Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, for their proactive steps toward reopening the club. The club, which had been temporarily shut for overdue renovations, is set to undergo an extensive facelift to meet international standards.

Wike Promises Swift Intervention

During an inspection visit to the club on Saturday, Minister Wike assured members that immediate renovation works would commence under an emergency intervention plan. Priority, he said, would be given to the clubhouse and relaxation areas, which serve as the core of golfers’ social activities.

He revealed that renowned construction firm Julius Berger Nigeria Plc the original designers of the course in 1991 would handle the renovation process. Other parts of the club will be upgraded in phases.

He credited the collective efforts of over 2,000 club members who signed a petition during a week-long campaign at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium last month. That campaign, he said, helped build the momentum that led to government intervention.

Runsewe emphasized that going forward, the club will implement strict security checks and profile members to maintain discipline and prestige. He added that the BOT will prioritize members’ health and well-being, golf course maintenance, and youth development initiatives.

A New Era for IBB Golf Club
With plans firmly in motion, members say they are looking forward to resuming activities and events at the rejuvenated facility.

The renovation of the IBB International Golf and Country Club is expected to position it not only as a top-tier recreational space but also as a beacon for sports tourism and investment in Nigeria’s capital.
