Godwin Maduka Foundation gives out bags of rice, beans to Awka-Etiti indigents

Dr. Godwin Maduka Foundation has reached out to the indigents of Awka-Etiti in Idemili South local government of Anambra state with stimulus packages as palliative to cushion the effect of hunger resulting from the COVID-19 lockdown.

The Foundation with its headquarters at Umuchukwu, Orumba South was at the Awketiti Town Hall recently to present the palliatives to Awka-Etiti Improvement Union Executives for theur people.

Presenting the 40 bags of 5kg Rice and 20 bags of about 5kg Beans, the Foundation’s State Coordinator, Tochukwu Ilo said that they had been donating same to the 179 communities in Anambra State.

“We are here today to represent Dr. Godwin Maduka who is incidentally out of the country and could not fly into the country before the lock down.

“He has a gift for the most vulnerable in the 179 communities. Although everybody is facing the harsh reality but some are feeling the heat of hunger more than others.

“These packages will be coming in stage by stage. Our Foundation is known for giving  out scholarships, we embark on medical outreaches, youth empowerment for Small and Medium enterprises.

“But today Corona virus has brought ‘hunger virus’ and we are simply here to assist the poorest who feed from hand to mouth. We are complementing the efforts of government”, said Ilo.

Moreover, the Idemili South coordinator, Chief Basil Eruchalu charged the Town leadership to ensure the package reaches the target recipients adding it was time to be one’s brother’s keeper.

Receiving the items the AIU President General, Joachim Okeke ably represented by the Vice President, Chukwudiaso Ojukwu thanked the delegation assuring them that the executive will distribute the items to the intended recipient.

“Awka-Etiti people are very grateful to you for this kind gesture. We will share it equitably to the downtrodden as we hope for the next stage of consignment”, said Ojukwu.

Meanwhile, the Awka-Etiti Women leader, Mrs Dorathy Agbanyim prayed God to meet the donor at the point of his need for remembering Awka-Etiti people all the way from Orumba South.

“We are learning some lessons from his magnanimity. All the way from Anambra South he has reached out to us in Anambra Central this shows that we are one people.

“In fact, Dr. Godwin Maduka has written his name in Awketiti’s Guinness book of records. May God meet him at the point of his needs’, said Agbanyim.
