FG Pledges Job Creation, Empowerment, and Innovation for Nigerian Youths in 2025

The Federal Government has announced a comprehensive plan for Nigerian youths in 2025, focusing on job creation, empowerment, and innovation to foster sustainable development. Unveiled during the closing ceremony of the 7th National Council on Youth Development (NCYD) in Borno State, the initiative aims to tackle unemployment and increase youth participation in the economy. The event, themed “Transforming and Repositioning the Nigerian Youth to Thrive and Catalyse Economic Development,” featured speeches from the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, and Borno State Governor, Babagana Umaru Zulum, who emphasized the crucial role of youths—who make up over 60% of Nigeria’s population—in driving economic growth. The Federal Government outlined six key priority areas for 2025: 1. Access to Capital 2. Job Creation 3. Skill Development 4. Entrepreneurship Support 5. Youth Empowerment 6. Youth Involvement in Decision-Making Processes Minister Olawande highlighted the importance of creating safe spaces for youths to innovate, network, and exchange ideas. He noted that empowering the youth is essential for unlocking their potential. To support this vision, the Ministry has established a Youth Help Desk for direct engagement with young people and approved the creation of a Youth House in Abuja, as well as Youth Centres in every state and Youth Green Houses in all 774 local government areas. These platforms will foster communication and collaboration among youths. Governor Zulum reaffirmed his commitment to youth development through initiatives such as vocational training, education, and scholarships. He emphasized that investing in the youth is investing in the future, noting that with 70% of Nigeria’s population under 30, the youth demographic is vital for the nation’s future. The Federal Government’s renewed focus on youth development underscores its commitment to building a robust, inclusive economy, with Nigerian youths positioned as central drivers of growth and innovation.
