FedPoly Oko Alumni Re-Elects Nnebe as National President

The Federal Polytechnic, Oko Alumni Association in Awka yesterday re-elected Nze Henry Chukwuka Nnebe as the association’s national president for a second term.

The chairman of the electoral committee, Comrade Sunday Chuma Orji while announcing the results, said that Nze Henry Nnebe secured 47 yes votes out of 53 accredited voters from the ten branches of the association across Nigeria.

Other elected officers of the association include the Vice President, Chief Henry Belonwu Onyekwelu, National Secretary, Dr. Nwazue Chimemela and the Assistant National Secretary, Dr. Magnus Ugwa.

Others are: the national treasurer, Hon. Gabriel Nwafor, National Publicity secretary, Comrade Chidi Jean Ikechukwu, Director of Protocol, Stephen Goodluck Omamuzo, Director of Welfare, Dr. Beatrice Ezechukwu, Director of Finance, Peter Odera Muonwe who got 28 votes to beat his rivalry, Emmanuel Orji who secured 23 votes.

Nnebe in his acceptance speech thanked the electoral committee for the transparent and seamless process and delegates for considering him worthy to continue to pilot the affairs of the association for the next four years.

He promised to continue, complete and commission the projects his administration started and make the Federal Polytechnic Oko Alumni more visible and vibrant by opening more branches and an international forum.

Said he: Federal Polytechnic Oko Alumni has been consistent with the right people. If you allow people to follow due process, you will see good result. There is no micro management in our Alumni today and that is the reason why all the ten branches are here today fully represented.

“The vision of the Alumni is my priority which is good transition as we witnessed today. Presently, we have two projects at hand; construction of ultramodern school gate at Ufuma Campus and the Ibrahim Babangida museum. This administration will complete them and we hope to open more branches and have international forum.

“Federal polytechnic Oko is the best east of the Niger, we have groomed people, we have over five hundred thousand graduates, we are committed to what we have-peaceful alumni that have champions that are yet to come in and when we do that, we can move to the next level .

On his reason to name the museum after former president Ibrahim Babangida, Nnebe explained: “whatever thing you do, there must be a beginning. It was Ibrahim Babangida in 1993 that made Federal Polytechnic, Oko and most of all the polytechnics in Nigeria a federal polytechnic and funded them. He gave Federal Polytechnic Oko thirty six million naira (N36 million) and that was the boost that brought Oko to limelight”

On his part, the Board of Trustee Chairman and 1988 former Student Union Government President, Chief Metu Augustine Ejike while congratulating the new leaders charged them to bring the process of mentorship in their second term.

According to him, “we have started a process we had been dreaming of and today it has taken off.The dream is the process of making everything concerning our Alumni association better and stronger.

“The fact remains that under the leadership of Chief Nnebe, we have witnessed a very serious committed and transparent leadership despite all the hurdles and hiccups. Today is a milestone in the sense that we had a wonderful and peaceful election. We will be striving to achieve near perfect situation in this alumni association and we thank God for the man on sit today.

“I am using this opportunity to urge him to start the process of mentorship. The beauty of a leader is to mentor a successor and I found myself to be privileged to be here today to witness this wonderful process.

The former national president of the Alumni and Head of Service, Onitsha South local Government, Area, Hon Victor Okey Orji commended Alumni for their maturity and comportment during the election.

“During my days of national president, it was fight but today, we are seeing that things are flowing accordingly, we have branches and the election was done through branch representatives .

“It is my expectation that Federal polytechnic Oko will be a degree awarding institution. Alumni Association can spearhead the call.

An Alumni stakeholder, HRM Eze Charles Emezi and Barr. Mila Emeka Okpara, described the election as best in the history of alumni election, calling for development of more branches in Nigeria.
