FCCPC to partner International Breweries on standard manufacturing practices

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) will partner International Breweries, (makers of Hero beer, Grand and Beta malt) Onitsha, for the maintenance of standard manufacturing practices.

This was made known during FCCPC advocacy visit to the Breweries plant in Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra State.

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission  is a federal government agency that has the mandate to protect and promote the interest of consumers in a free and fair market environment. 

Other mandates of the Commission are to promote choices, ensure fairness towards protecting the interest of the consumers among others. 

It was established under the FCCP Act of 2018 with the mandate to promote and protect the interest of Consumers.

Speaking at the visit, leader of the delegation and Southeast zonal coordinator, Mr. Izunna Anthony Nwafor said there is need for a collaboration between the Commission and the management of the plant to ensure that set down rules according to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) is maintained. 

He highlighted functions of the Commission to include; ensuring the adoption of appropriate measures to guarantee that goods and services are safe for intended use and to reduce the risk and injury which may occur from consumption of certain consumer items and other services rendered to consumers.

He informed that cases of defaulting practices and other anti-Competitive practices such as price fixing, monopoly, cartel, among others, attracts expedite action that may include restriction or prohibition of an enterprise.

Reacting, Manager Corporate Affairs of the manufacturing plant, Mr Damian Igwe noted that the company complies with the guidelines and set down rules of productions.

Igwe said the company is ready and prepared to collaborate with FCCPC to ensure that the commissions mandate which is to promote and protect the interest of Consumers is maintained.

Highlights of the visit was a facility tour of the plant and presentation of  educational materials to the corporate affairs manager, by the Zonal Coordinator of FCCPC Southeast zonal office.
