Enugwu-Ukwu Community Apologizes For Assaulting ABS Crew During Protest

Thursday 21st May 2020 could best be described as one darkest moment for Ndi Enugwu-Ukwu following the sudden death of the late Anthony Okafor who died on Wednesday night 20th May 2020 while being pursued by a police vehicle for violating curfew order, and was then hit by another vehicle.
The ugly incident forced the people of the area into protest blocking the Enugwu-Ukwu axis of the Old Enugu-Onitsha Express Road with placards disrupting vehicular movement and economic activities in the area.
The furry of the youths also led them to molest the crew of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS who were on an official duty detailed to cover the said protest.
The trio of Comrade Chibuzo Obidike (the ABS Reporter) and Mr Patrick Nnatuanya ( the Driver ) were left in different degrees of injuries including Comrade Chukwualuka Nnamekwue (Cameraman) who is currently hospitalized.
In this regard, the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh at his palace in Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka Council Area alongside members of his cabinet, the representative of the youths of Enugwu-Ukwu as well as the family of the deceased in a press briefing apologized to the entire Anambra Broadcasting Service and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) over the incident and described the moment as a horrible period for the Community.
They said, however, it was not a justification reason to indulge in such unlawful act.
The Monarch recounted the numerous insults and abuse he and his President General, Comrade Bonny Ozo-Nkwuaku received while trying to calm the angry mob and asked the offended persons to forgive in the fact that both the community and Journalists share a good relationship.
