Corps Members to Receive N77,000 Monthly Stipend – NYSC DG Confirms

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Yushau Ahmed Dogara, has reiterated the scheme’s strict stance against protests and indiscipline among corps members. During a visit to the temporary orientation camp in Kaduna, Dogara highlighted that several corps members had attempted protests in the past three months, leading to disciplinary actions. He reminded corps members that the NYSC’s bylaws clearly define the consequences of such behavior. “In NYSC, just like in the Army and Police, protests are not permitted because we uphold discipline and respect for the law. If anyone tries to deceive you, refer to your bylaws,” Dogara said. “In the past three months, some corps members have shown indiscipline and attempted protests, and they are being disciplined for their actions.” The DG also raised concerns about the safety of corps members, particularly regarding night travels. He pointed out that many night journeys have led to accidents and kidnappings, resulting in the loss of lives. “I am deeply concerned about the frequent night journeys that have caused so many fatalities, accidents, and kidnappings. We must take steps to prevent these tragedies, so I urge you to avoid traveling at night and prioritize your safety,” he stressed. Regarding the corps members’ allowance, Dogara announced that the government has agreed to increase the monthly stipend from N33,000 to N77,000. The increase is expected to be reflected in the allowances soon, pending the completion of necessary processes, particularly the release of funds. “When the government increases salaries, we approach them for an adjustment in corps members’ allowances, and they have always responded positively. This time, the government has agreed to double the amount from N33,000 to N77,000, and we are now awaiting the finalization of the process,” he confirmed.
