Coronavirus: Okonjo-Iweala Gets New Africa Union Appointment

A Former Nigerian Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has been appointed as a Special Envoy of the African Union to mobilize international support for COVID-19 Pandemic.

Naija News Understands that the Chairperson of the African Union, President of the Republic of South Africa His Excellency Cyril Ramaphosa announced the appointment of the former Minister of Finance under President Goodluck Jonathan‘s administration and two other african top envoys.

Others appointed are Dr Donald Kaberuka, Mr Tidjane Thiam and Mr Trevor Manuel. The Special Envoys will be tasked with soliciting rapid and concrete support as pledged by the G20, the European Union and other international financial institutions.

Their job will be to mobilise international support for Africa’s efforts to address the economic challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
