COMMUNIQUÉ PRESENTED AT THE END OF THE NUJ FEBRUARY 2025 CONGRESS AT THE GODWIN EZEEMO INTERNATIONAL PRESS CENTRE, NUJ SECRETARIAT COMPLEX, AWKA ON THURSDAY 6TH FEBRUARY 2025

At the end of a well attended Congress by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council presided over by the State Council Chairman, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD, JP, it was resolved as follows:
- Congress frowned at the unethical attitude of some journalists who expose the identity of minors using pictures especially in crime reports, as such may jeopardize the future of the children via stigmatization.
- Congress commended the Governor of Anambra State,Prof Chukwuma Soludo for rising to the challenge of insecurity in the state, urging him to sustain the tempo.
- Congress called on the Anambra state government to double its efforts to stamp out insecurity in the state for an assured security of lives and property of the citizens. Congress, therefore, welcomed the operation udo-ga-achi, and, Agunechemba security outfit but appealed to the outfit to do well to rescue kidnapped victims alive where possible.
Congress further encouraged Ndi Anambra to see themselves as part of the security efforts of the government by saying something when they see something.
4.Congress commended Hon Prof Lilian Orogbu, a member representing Awka North and South Federal constituency in the National Assembly for donating 20 bags of 50 kg bags of Rice to the NUJ Anambra to share during the February 2025 Congress.
- Congress also commended a Governorship candidate in Anambra,Chief Valentine Ozigbo for supporting the hosting of the February 2025 Congress of the NUJ with N300,000.
- Congress further praised the simultaneous springing up of new roads across the state by Prof Chukwuma Soludo led administration noting that the initiative is opening up the rural communities and the state for investors and granting better life for our people at grassroots. Congress also praised the massive works at the new government house at the three arms zone near Dr Alex Ekwueme Square Aroma. The project consists of governor’s Lodge, presidential Lodge , press Hangout, police court, governor’s office and Deputy governor’s office, to mention but a few.
- Congress resolved that as the 2025 Governorship election draws near, journalists should be professional in their election reportage, avoid unruly behaviour in the field, stop ambulance chasing particularly at events uninvited or gate crashed by focusing on the event rather than other pecuniary to earn respect.
- Congress congratulated Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu and his elected State Working Committee (SWC) on their election at the just concluded State Triennial Conference. The Congress resolved that members in the state should unite immediately for the growth and progress of the union by understanding that election is over and winners announced. Congress called on members to bury the hatchet outcome hatchet particularly when the election was free and fair and was seen to be so, and join hands to make the union prosperous.
Congress, however, condemned the use of foul language and campaign of calumny witnessed during the last NUJ election, called for a post mortem to avoid repeat of such in subsequent elections of the union. - Congress also harped on the need for training and retraining of journalists on standard language of communication in their reportage.
- Entrepreneurs that open radio stations in the state were commended as it has led to proliferation of radio broadcasting in Anambra, but appealed for the prioritisation of the welfare of the staff, who are our members.
- Congress appreciated the candidates campaigning to take over the vacant seat of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah at Anambra South senatorial zone for maintaining civility and decorum in their campaign activities so far, urging them to remain on facts and what they can do rather than campaign of calumny.
