Born Tough, Situations Made Me Tougher – Okorie Chidiebere

My name is Okorie Chidiebere Jessica. A young lady woven from various experiences, dreams, values and faith in life. Born and raised partly in the ghetto and commercial part of Lagos and also groomed in the beautiful parts of Lagos. Been raised in these places made me understand that everyone has value which should be respected at all times.
Growing up in a family of seven after the loss of my twin was life’s first way of telling me how tough I should be. The thought of my family made me always want to get everything right because their joy is also mine. I was cared for and raised by two beautiful individuals who taught me vividly that to face anything in this life, God must be topping the chart. Through this knowledge I grew up to Love God and announced my Love at every given opportunity I got.
The Love of God birthed my quest to study mass communication and succeed in God’s dream for me. My school days always brought opportunities for me to get the attention of the crowd even when I do little things. Communicating with anybody or a group of people felt natural to me as I was always able to pull them to me with little or no effort. In 2018, I finished senior secondary school and began working, making sure I give back to my family all they have invested in me. Wrote Jamb in 2020, given admission got to school, found out my name was missing on the admission board, I went back to Lagos heartbroken, I dusted myself up and started working.
I taught in primary school, Jamb and WAEC tutorials and private lessons just to make sure book wasn’t out of my face. On faithful day I met with my Pastor and told him I want to go back to school, He prayed and told me to prepare, this was in 2022 January. In march of the same year I bought my form and wrote the exams in May. August I got a job in a Micro finance company, took it whilst waiting for my admission. Fast forward to March 2023, I got the admission I sorted for. In May I resigned but was called in by the Police because my boss didn’t want me just leave insisting I should work with the company for May and then leave and of course I refused. Sorted all the issues with the company after prayers and guidance from my Pastor and family. Then I came to this third face of my life, Nnamdi Azikwe University to become the very best at what God wants for me.
I pride myself with God’s backing all the way and I can confidently say He is doing a good work on me. Bringing me to Anambra as a whole, meeting beautiful and blessed minds in school, church and my surroundings. I believe the best is yet to come.
