Army Provides Free Healthcare to Over 5,000 Sokoto Residents

As part of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day activities, the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army in Sokoto has delivered free medical services to over 5,000 residents of Gidan Gabas in Dange/Shuni Local Government Area. Speaking at the event’s launch, Major General Ibikunke Ajose, General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2 of Operation Hadarin Daji, emphasized the Army’s commitment to supporting underserved communities. Represented by Brigadier General Ogbonnaya Igwe, Ajose highlighted that the initiative reflects the Army’s tradition of community service beyond the remembrance celebrations. “Our medical team has come equipped to provide comprehensive care, ensuring no one is left out. We specifically chose rural areas like Gidan Gabas to reach those in greatest need,” he stated. Brigadier General Austin Okafor, Commandant of 8 Division Medical Hospital and Services, detailed the services offered, which included malaria testing and treatment, hypertension management, eye care with free eyeglasses, dental services, diabetes screening, and paediatric care. Complicated cases requiring advanced care would be referred to the Army Hospital at Giginya Barracks, Sokoto. Abubakar Maradun, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, praised the Army for its compassion and urged similar interventions in other communities across Sokoto State. He also encouraged residents to cooperate for the smooth delivery of services and offered prayers for the Army’s leadership and personnel. This initiative underscores the Nigerian Army’s dedication to improving the welfare of local communities and fostering goodwill across the nation.
