Anambra’s Political Opportunists: How November 8 Has Become An Avenue For Self-Enrichment And Ambition For 2027

By Izuchukwu Adichie
As the political space in Anambra get busier in anticipation of the November 8 election, a chorus of individuals contesting for the governorship has emerged, though their legitimacy remains questionable. Many of these candidates either lack essential educational qualifications or are burdened by undisclosed debts. Additionally, several are hampered by dubious character and a distinct lack of leadership experience.
These so-called candidates know they stand no chance against the incumbent governor, Soludo. Instead, they are playing a strategic game with two main goals: positioning themselves as future contenders for Senate, and Federal House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections while ensuring they remain relevant for political appointments in the future, and leveraging the campaign season to attract donations, sponsorships, and patronage from vested interests.
However, Ndi Anambra is not fooled by these tactics. The voters recognizes this game all too well, and the political opportunists understand that their intentions are well known. This mutual awareness is evident in the unusual calm that has settled over Anambra as November 8 approaches. There are no serious challengers posing a threat to Soludo’s re-election bid, only individuals attempting to exploit the situation for personal gain.
The quietude in Anambra’s political arena ahead of the upcoming election stems from Soludo’s commendable performance in office, which has garnered broad support across the state. The unserious candidates are merely turning this gubernatorial election into an avenue for their personal enrichment, despite the consensus among party stakeholders and members that Soludo remains the clear choice.
