ECOWAS Commission develops National Strategy to enhance protection, security of Nigerians
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission has developed a holistic, integrated coordination mechanism to enhance Nigeria’s efforts in the protection and security of its citizens.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ECOWAS mechanism for protection and human security for the Nigerian Government was adopted after a three-day capacity building workshop for multiple stakeholders in Abuja.
Hajiya Raheemat Momodu, Head, Human Security and Civil Society Division, ECOWAS Commission, spoke at the closing of the workshop.
She said that effective collaborations of all stakeholders is key to effectively tackle protection and human security challenges confronting Member States.
Momodu said that in a bid to achieve this, the ECOWAS Commission brought together stakeholders across sectors to discuss their individual mandates, challenges and how they can work for effectiveness.
She said that the resolutions from the workshop were developed into a consolidated and holistic approach mechanism which would be presented to the Nigerian Government for implementation.
According to Momodu, the COVID-19 exposes how fragile many countries of the sub-region are in protection and human security issues like Sexual and Gender Based Violence amongst others.
“The final resolution is that there is a need for all ECOWAS Member States, Nigeria in this case, to institutionalise a whole of government and a whole of societal approach to protection and human security.
“And that it is very important that we do not all work in silos and the fact that every sector of the society is equal stakeholders.
“The media, you were fully represented, the private sector, government establishments and other persons.
“What next after this is the establishment of ECOWAS protection and human security integrated coordination mechanism in a place that the Nigerian government wants.
“We are not going to dictate to the Nigerian government but we prefer that such a mechanism since it is going to coordinate other stakeholders should be in a central office that will be accessible to everybody.”
He said: “ Once the mechanism is created, ECOWAS will continue to interface with that mechanism when it comes to protection and human security so that we work together with Nigeria and with the support of partners.
“To ensure that the mechanism is functional in terms of remaining focus on issues of protection. When it comes to protection, we need to have something like a protection web that covers everybody,” Momodu said.
On implementation of the mechanism, Momodu urged the Nigerian Government and that of other Member States to implement the mechanism which emanated from the people themselves.
“Implementation has always been a problem not just in Nigeria but generally. It is so easy to write, to say I am committed to doing this.
“But now, we have got to a stage in Nigeria and elsewhere that we begin to pay more attention to implementation and execution.
“What we write on the text does not automatically turn out to reality so that is why ECOWAS is advocating that not just Nigeria.
“But that all our Member States begin to see the issue of protection and human security as beyond paper commitments to actually coordinate and implement,” Momodu said.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, commended the ECOWAS Commission for driving the process and developing a roadmap which seeks to protect the community citizens.
Onyeama, who was represented by Mr Johnson Ogbele, Counsellor at the ECOWAS National Unit in the ministry, said that the outcomes of the workshop align with the mandates of ECOWAS National Unit in the ministry.
“I am certain that this workshop has built the capacity of participants that we, as stakeholders, are more aware and better prepared to protect Nigerians in vulnerable situations.
“As well as implement ECOWAS text in relations to advancement of human security in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It is my hope that this workshop will help us as stakeholders to seamlessly coordinate our existing mechanism for national social intervention programmes.
“Accordingly, our minds have been assailed by the torrent of ideas, information, statistics, interpretation and vision that we have received in the past three days.
“We will endeavor to add the key outcomes into our national spectrum for human security with a view to consolidating government’s efforts,” Onyeama said. (NAN)

One thing I have actually noticed is that often there are plenty of misconceptions regarding the financial institutions intentions whenever talking about property foreclosure. One misconception in particular is that often the bank desires your house. Your banker wants your hard earned cash, not your home. They want the cash they gave you having interest. Staying away from the bank will still only draw the foreclosed final result. Thanks for your article.
I?m impressed, I have to say. Really not often do I encounter a weblog that?s both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head. These changes in {focus|focusing|concentration|target|the a**** length will be reflected inside viewfinder and on substantial display screen on the back of this camera.

I have seen a lot of useful points on your web site about pc’s. However, I’ve the thoughts and opinions that notebook computers are still more or less not powerful adequately to be a sensible choice if you often do things that require a lot of power, like video enhancing. But for world-wide-web surfing, microsoft word processing, and majority of other common computer functions they are fine, provided you cannot mind the little screen size. Many thanks for sharing your ideas.

One thing I want to comment on is that weightloss system fast may be accomplished by the right diet and exercise. Ones size not merely affects appearance, but also the complete quality of life. Self-esteem, depression, health risks, along with physical ability are influenced in fat gain. It is possible to just make everything right and at the same time having a gain. If this happens, a problem may be the primary cause. While an excessive amount food instead of enough physical exercise are usually accountable, common health concerns and popular prescriptions could greatly add to size. Thanks alot : ) for your post here.
What I have seen in terms of laptop or computer memory is that there are specific features such as SDRAM, DDR etc, that must go with the specs of the mother board. If the personal computer’s motherboard is reasonably current while there are no os issues, changing the memory space literally requires under 1 hour. It’s one of many easiest laptop upgrade types of procedures one can consider. Thanks for revealing your ideas.
Hi! This post couldn’t be written any better! Reading through this post reminds me of my old room mate! He always kept talking about this. I will forward this write-up to him. Pretty sure he will have a good read. Thanks for sharing!

Another thing I’ve really noticed is that for many people, poor credit is the results of circumstances beyond their control. By way of example they may be actually saddled with illness and as a consequence they have large bills for collections. Maybe it’s due to a job loss or inability to work. Sometimes separation and divorce can really send the funds in an opposite direction. Thanks for sharing your thinking on this website.
Thanks for these pointers. One thing I should also believe is the fact that credit cards supplying a 0 interest rate often attract consumers with zero interest rate, instant endorsement and easy on the web balance transfers, but beware of the top factor that will certainly void the 0 easy road annual percentage rate and as well as throw anybody out into the bad house fast.
obviously like your web site but you have to check the spelling on quite a few of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling issues and I find it very bothersome to tell the truth nevertheless I?ll surely come back again.
Interesting blog post. What I would like to contribute is that computer memory has to be purchased but if your computer can’t cope with what you do with it. One can mount two good old ram boards containing 1GB each, for example, but not certainly one of 1GB and one of 2GB. One should look for the maker’s documentation for one’s PC to ensure what type of memory is necessary.
Wow! This blog looks exactly like my old one! It’s on a completely different topic but it has pretty much the same page layout and design. Excellent choice of colors!
It’s the best time to make a few plans for the future and it’s time to be happy. I have read this post and if I may I want to recommend you some interesting things or suggestions. Maybe you can write subsequent articles regarding this article. I desire to read even more issues approximately it!
