NUJ Tours Seahorse Factory as Senatorial Hopeful Ebuka Onunkwo Unveils 2027 Manifesto

The National Democratic Congress, NDC, Senatorial candidate for Anambra South, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, has promised to push for massive industrialization across Nigeria if elected in the January 2027 election.
Onunkwo, who is also the MD/CEO of Seahorse, made the pledge on Tuesday when he hosted members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, during a facility tour of his company in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo LGA.
The visit was part of activities marking the 2026 NUJ Press Week and the Council’s 35th Anniversary celebration. The delegation was led by the State Chairman, Comrade Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu.
Speaking with the journalists, Onunkwo said his priority in the Senate would be sponsoring bills for a new power station, improved infrastructure, and stronger security. According to him, stable electricity is the key to unlocking business growth.
He added that fixing bad roads and tackling insecurity will reduce production costs and help businesses in the Southeast access raw materials and markets faster.
The senatorial hopeful also revealed plans to push for legislation that supports the Igbo apprenticeship model, popularly known as “Igba Boi”. He said he will also advocate for industrial cluster stations and credit facilities for small businesses and entrepreneurs to encourage more young people to learn trades and invest.
Onunkwo lamented that many businesses have shut down due to power and security challenges, but said the problems are surmountable with the right laws and political will. “Fix these and you’ll see more jobs, more investors, and less crime,” he said.
Beyond business, he reaffirmed his commitment to education, saying he will continue to offer scholarships to students across the 7 LGAs in Anambra South and beyond.
Explaining why he’s moving from business to politics, Onunkwo said he needs a bigger platform to expand his philanthropic work and contribute to national development.
He listed some of his ongoing projects across Anambra South to include erosion control, job creation to fight insecurity, and initiatives to boost commerce and industrialization.
Expressing confidence ahead of the 2027 poll, he said the feedback from over 200 August meetings shows that the people are “yearning for a breath of fresh air.”
He also called on well-meaning Nigerians to join politics so that governance doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.
In his remarks, NUJ Chairman, Comrade Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, commended the cordial relationship between Onunkwo and his staff. He urged him to keep up the good work, saying “history will remember you for it.”
