Awka Monarch Charges New Advisers on Unity, Development

The Traditional Ruler of Awka Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Obi (Dr.) Gibson Nwabueze Nwosu, Eze Uzu II, has enjoined newly installed members of the Cabinet Advisory Council to dedicate themselves to the promotion of peace, unity and sustainable development within the kingdom.

The royal charge was delivered during the formal installation of nine new members of the council at the monarch’s palace on June 6.

Those inducted into the advisory body were Chief Obiora Charles Anueyiagu (Oshishiama III) of Umueri, leader of the Obidient Movement in Anambra State; Chief Jonathan Nzekwe (Chinyelugo) of Umuonaga; Chief Uche Nkwo (Arinze Olise) of Obunagu Amikwo; Chief Ken Chukwuma (Omeogo) of Umuogbu; Elder Chief Daniel Anawetalu Moghalu (Ewulu) of Umujagwo; Chief Ken Ekwenugo (Uzu Nka Awka) of Umuogbu; Mr. Godwin Chimezie Okafor (Eze Chukwuchili) of Omuko; Prince Emeka Ndigwe (Adumnwerige) of Umuayom; and Dr. Ikechukwu Felix Nwanna (Egbeigwe) of Okperi.

The ceremony was presided over by the monarch and assisted by the Palace Leader, Engr. Benjamin Okoye (Otutu Awka II). It attracted members of Ndị Ozo Awka, cabinet chiefs, kingmakers and other notable stakeholders from across the kingdom.

Speaking on behalf of the monarch, Engr. Okoye described the appointments as a solemn call to service and urged the new advisers to deploy their wealth of experience, wisdom and influence in fostering harmony and advancing the progress of Awka Kingdom.

He disclosed that the selection process, which commenced nearly a year ago, was painstaking and transparent, aimed at ensuring that only individuals of proven integrity and credibility emerged.

“The strength and stability of every kingdom rest on the commitment of its leaders to peace, unity and development. You have been chosen because of your character, experience and contributions to society. I urge you to bring wisdom, honesty and dedication to this important responsibility,” he said.

Okoye further noted that the Cabinet Advisory Council occupies a strategic position within the traditional governance structure of Awka Kingdom, with the responsibility of offering sound counsel on matters relating to the welfare, cultural heritage and overall development of the people.

In their response, the newly installed members pledged unwavering loyalty to the throne and promised to discharge their duties with diligence, integrity and commitment.

Speaking on behalf of the council, Chief Jonathan Nzekwe expressed gratitude to the monarch and the people of Awka for the confidence reposed in them. He called on all stakeholders to close ranks in the interest of peace, unity and the restoration of the kingdom’s dignity.

“We appeal to all stakeholders to work together for the peace, unity and continued progress of our kingdom. Collective effort remains the surest path to restoring and preserving the dignity of Awka,” he stated.

Also speaking, Chief Obiora Charles Anueyiagu assured the monarch that members of the council would justify the trust placed in them by supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening peace, preserving the kingdom’s rich cultural heritage and driving meaningful development.

Earlier, the Palace Secretary, Chief Pius C. Okonkwo (Onyemecheliweli), explained that the appointments were made to fill vacancies arising from the death and withdrawal of former representatives.

He noted that the exercise was conducted in accordance with Article 18(a), Sub-sections I and III of the Awka Traditional Rulers Constitution of 1986, as amended, which guarantees continuous representation of all sections of the kingdom within the advisory council.

The ceremony concluded with prayers for the enduring peace, unity and prosperity of Awka Kingdom, as well as goodwill messages to the newly installed council members.
