The Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Right Reverend Samuel Ezeofor, says the problems of banditry, terrorism, herders’ menace, kidnappings and ethnic cleansing across Nigeria are of global concern.

Presenting his charge at the Third Session of the Seventh Synod of Aguata Diocese, held at Saint Andrew’s Parish, Ezira, in Orumba South Local Government Area, Bishop Ezeofor said that religion and tribal identities have been weaponized, which, according to him, are fundamental factors contributing to the intractable insecurity in Nigeria, adding that the Islamization and expansionist land-grabbing agenda remains central to insecurity in the country.

Bishop Ezeofor, who regretted the high rate of corruption in the country, called on the Federal Government to seek ways of revamping the economy to improve the purchasing power of the naira, in addition to formulating policies that will improve the living standards of Nigerians who are currently facing a series of challenges, including hunger and starvation.

Bishop Ezeofor, while commending Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his developmental strides in Anambra State, called on the government to look into the activities of Agunechemba under Operation Udo Ga-Achi to ensure that the security outfit operates within the stipulated laws guiding it and to avoid corrupt practices.

Speaking on behalf of the bishops who attended the Synod, the Archbishop of the Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, remarked that the theme of the Synod is apt and focuses on the family, admonishing parents to always prioritise their families and never allow the cares of the world to distract them from building godly homes.
