Tax ID Required for Bank Accounts from Jan 2026 – FG
The Federal Government has announced that, from January 1, 2026, all taxable Nigerians must have a Tax Identification Number (TIN) to operate bank accounts.
Students and dependents are exempt. The requirement is backed by the Nigerian Tax Administration Act, formalizing existing provisions from the 2020 Finance Act.
