FRSC Flags Off 2025 Ember Months’ Campaign In Anambra, Urges Drivers To Take Responsibility For Safety
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has officially flagged off the 2025 Ember Months public enlightenment and sensitization campaign in Anambra State with a renewed call on motorists to take personal responsibility for their safety and adhere strictly to road traffic regulations during the festive season.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony in Awka, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, said the campaign was part of nationwide efforts to reduce road traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities often associated with increased vehicular movement during the Ember months.
Representing the Corps Marshal at the event, the Anambra State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, said this year’s theme, “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving,” underscores the need for motorists to adopt safe driving habits and avoid distractions that lead to preventable crashes.
She explained that the Corps chose the theme to address driver-related offences such as speeding, drunk driving, overloading, use of mobile phones while driving, and failure to use seat belts — violations that have remained major causes of road accidents.
According to her, statistics from the 2024 Operation Zero exercise showed that 432 persons lost their lives while 2,070 sustained various degrees of injuries in 533 recorded crashes nationwide, most of which were linked to human error.
She stressed that the Corps would intensify enforcement and sensitisation to ensure safer highways during and after the festive period.
Corps Commander Asekhauno also revealed that the FRSC had put in place several measures to achieve the objectives of the campaign, including the deployment of personnel and Special Marshals across major highways, continuous free vehicle checks, and sustained public enlightenment in motor parks, churches, and markets.
