Traders in ozomagala street odoakpu Onitsha, onitsha south LGA under the aegis of Ozomagala building materials dealers association has appealed to Gov. Chukwuma Soludo to hold his special adviser on trade and markets Chief Evaristus Uba responsible for any fracas and lack of trust among traders in the area and beg Gov Chukwuma Soludo to urgently intervene personally in the matter to prevent further escalation of the problem adding that the special adviser impunity in dissolving the democratic elected executive of traders and replacing them with caretaker executive was the root cause of the problem.

Making this appeal to Gov Soludo to rescue them while speaking to newsmen on the ongoing crises ravaging the market which several times has resulted in shedding of blood and panic in the market, Chief Obiora Okoro the Onitsha South L.G.A, and Onitsha south shop owners traders association of Nigeria recognized chairman of the association as well as the democratic elected Chairman of the traders noted that the main cause of the crises was the deliberate insistence of Chief Evaristus Uba the governor special adviser on trade and markets to Unjustfully removed him from his elected office without consulting the majority of traders who elected him or himself either. He alleged that Chief Uba without consulting the traders of the plazas unjust fully connived with few elements who are enemies of progress of the union to removed him without consulting him or majority of traders who elected him. He said that most of them are sworn enemies of the association or people who want to benefit in a place where they did not sow.
Brandishing his certificate of re-election as issued to him by Onitsha south LGA authorities, and Onitsha south shop owners traders association of Nigeria, he stated that despite Chief Uba been aware that he has been re-elected for a second tenure and that his tenure has not expired, he said he ignored due process and went ahead to forcefully dissolve his executive and impose a caretaker executive.
Said he in sadness, “We the genuine traders of the plazas are begging our dear Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo to personally intervene and restore sanity as the problem is adversely affecting our businesses, we are begging him to intervene quickly and save us from Chief Evaristus Uba, where we are staying is a plaza owned by Modebe family, it is not a market but private plazas owned by Modebe family of Onitsha.
Corroborating what was said by chief Obiora, stakeholders of the association, including a former chairman of the association, Chief Ferdinand Ifezue, Mrs Chioma Nweke among others debunked all allegations leveled against Chief Obiora okoro describing them as tissues of lies and cheap blackmail saying that as far as the traders of the market are concern chief Okoro remained the chairman of the plaza as he was elected based on his good record.
Said the duo, “We are begging Soludo to Urgently personally intervene and ensure that our constitutional right are not being trampled upon by the special adviser. We believe that this action goes against what Gov. Soludo and state government stands for.
Reacting also, Onitsha south LGA Mayor Chief Aloysius Orji while speaking through the secretary of the Local government Mr. Paul Onuachalla Esq said that as far as they are concerned that they will always stand for equity and justice stressing that the only recognized leadership by the council is that of Chief Obiora Okoro led executive just as he reiterated the local government resolve to continue giving the executive their total support in their bid to renovate the ten plazas in the area which they purchased on lease from Modebe family. further, he stated that the so called dissolution of the executives by Chief Evaristus Uba Gov. Soludo special adviser on trade and market is null and void as the local government is the local government authorized in law to oversea shops and plazas owners as enshrines in the fourth schedules of the 1999 constitution as amended in Anambra state local government administration law 2024.
It will be recalled that recently there has been tension in the Ozomagala building materials dealers association Modebe plaza following the inauguration of an interim committee led by one Mr. Tochukwu Umeh by the special adviser on trade and market.Newsmen search showed that Since the inauguration of the caretaker executive that the market has been factionalized into two factions with each other trying to outshadow the other for a bitter clash that left several traders wounded to occur recently in the market.
