NERC Hands Bayelsa Control of Power Market
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has transferred regulatory control of Bayelsa’s electricity market to the Bayelsa Electricity Regulatory Agency (BYERA) under the Electricity Act 2023.
NERC directed Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company to create a subsidiary for intrastate power supply within 60 days, with full transfer to be completed by February 2026.
Bayelsa now joins Lagos, Ogun, Edo, Enugu, and other states empowered to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity independently.
