Security operatives in Kaduna have arrested a suspected vote buyer, Shehu Aliyu Patangi, with ₦25.96 million in cash, just hours before Saturday’s bye-elections.

Patangi was apprehended around 3:30 a.m. at a hotel along Turunku Road by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services.

Police spokesman DSP Mansir Hassan said preliminary investigations showed the money was meant to induce voters. He added that the suspect had confessed and pleaded for leniency.

Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad warned that the command would not tolerate vote buying, thuggery, or any act capable of undermining the electoral process.
