Customs Budgets N14.39bn for Luxury Vehicles Amid Criticism

The Nigeria Customs Service has earmarked ₦14.39bn to buy luxury vehicles for senior officers in 2025, part of a ₦35.27bn budget for 579 new official vehicles. Top-ranking officers will receive units costing between ₦44m and ₦75m each.
The plan, which includes brands like BYD, CHANGAN, and NORD, has sparked outrage from civil society groups, who say the spending is wasteful amid Nigeria’s economic crisis. Critics argue impounded vehicles could be refurbished for use instead of spending billions on new ones.
