“Technology Gives Voice to the Voiceless” – Mazi Ejimofor Okpara

By Chioma Imole
Dr. Mazi Ejimofor Okpara, a holder of a PhD in Medical Sociology from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, delivered a compelling lecture on technology’s impact, challenges, and disadvantages during the tech media-literacy session and inauguration of the SUG media team.
He emphasized that “technology gives voice to the voiceless and reaches people previously unreachable.” Dr. Okpara urged students to strive for digital literacy, beyond traditional literacy. While acknowledging the potential drawbacks, such as misinformation, he encouraged students to adapt to the evolving world.

The engaging lecture was complemented by giveaways, where five students, including Erasmus Ndulue, received N5,000 each for summarizing the key takeaways in three sentences. Dr. Okpara’s motivation for the gesture was aptly captured in his words, “It’s not easy to be a student, so for a student to understand and speak the language of a student, which is money.”
