The National Sports Commission (NSC) has praised the President of the Nigeria Flag Football Federation, Babajide Akeredolu, for his pivotal role in the country’s landmark success at the inaugural IFAF African Flag Football Championship held in Cairo, Egypt. Speaking during a reception in Abuja in honour of the victorious Nigerian teams, NSC Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade lauded Akeredolu’s unwavering financial, moral, and logistical support, describing it as instrumental to the teams’ golden triumph.
“The time, money, and energy you invested in these teams clearly demonstrate your deep commitment to Nigerian sports,” said Hon. Olopade. “You have brought a new dimension to the development of flag football, and for this, you deserve a national honour.” Nigeria dominated the continental competition, with the men’s team edging out host nation Egypt 13–12 in a gripping final at Club One Stadium in Maadi. In the women’s final, Nigeria overpowered Morocco 26–12, thanks to two crucial second-half touchdowns from quarterback Anuoluwapo Bello.

Tunisia and Egypt claimed bronze in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.
