Counsellor representing Ezinifite ward II at the Aguata Legislative Council, Hon Uchenna Akubuilo, has declared his commitment to ensuring the victory of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in the November 8 governorship election in the state.

Akubuilo made his stand known in his Ezinifite community during a One-Day Workshop and sensitization campaign to promote ethical values, accountability and good governance.

He said Soludo has done marvelously well in piloting the affairs of the state, noting that the governor has accomplished and given the people good governance within just a few years in office.

“The people of Enzinifite believes in our governor because he has delivered dividends of democracy to them. I’m confident he would continue to do so due to his capacity. Enzinifite would massively vote for Soludo and I assure that my people will overwhelmingly support him during the election,” he said

Akubuilo hinted that his decision to organize the awareness program was born out of his passion for growth and wellbeing of his people, in line with the governor’s vision of achieving acceptable living standard and progressive society.

“I told them after my election that this is the kind of things I would like to do to make an impact in my own little way.

“So far, I have been able to represent them well in the Congress of Counsellors in Aguata. I have organized free medicare, distributed a lot from the government, and many more that I can’t list here. A lot is still to come like: interschool competitions, youth sports competition, prostrate and breast enlargement awareness campaign, among others.

“My desire is to be as transparent as possible. The essence of the programme is to get the people aware of the dangers of some of these health related matters,” he said.

Ikengaonline reports that the workshop organised by Hon Akubuilo in collaboration with Creative Minds Center For Youth & Community Development featured campaigns against drug and child abuse, trafficking, internet fraud and cultism.

Addressing over 400 participants at the Ezinifite Townhall, Ugochi Freeman, the Executive Director of Creative Minds Center For Youth & Community Development, urged people of the community to stop encouraging corruption in their families and instead become change agents.

“The journey of good governance starts with the raising of responsible children from families. As we hold government accountable, we should also hold ourselves accountable. If we cannot give account of our offices, then there is no need for us holding government accountable.”

Freeman also called on citizens to be active in monitoring projects in their localities and to rise up as agents of change to achieve transparency and accountability at the local level.

Ifeoma Maduabuchi from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) cautioned locals to abstain from human trafficking and drug peddling, warning that those caught would face the full wrath of the law.

Other speakers at the event included Victoria Anigbogu, who highlighted the dangers of child labor, and Yohanna Rachael, who discussed Sexual and Gender-Based Violence. Ifeoma Nwigwe Esq. sensitized the audience on the dangers of rape, introducing them to the Sexual Offender Register and emphasizing that rape is a serious assault and a jailable offense.

The President-General Ezinifite, Nworah Ekwilo represented by Obiora Egbudom, commended the Councillor for the programme and urged the people to escalate what they have learnt to their friends and relatives for a better and safer community.
