36 road traffic offenders convincted in Anambra as FRSC intensify enforcement operation

No fewer than 36 road traffic offenders have been convicted, while two others were discharged and acquitted over various traffic offences in a joint mobile court session held in Awka on Monday.

Chief Magistrate A.N. Okoli of Awka presided over the court proceedings, and offenders were brought to book in a renewed efforts to intensity enforcement to ensure compliance with road safety regulations.

This was championed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Anambra State Sector Command in collaboration with sister agencies, geared towards enforcing number plate regulations to curb growing insecurity in the state.

Giving insight into the enforcement, the Sector Commander Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander said the initiative aims to reduce road traffic crashes through a crackdown on fake or non-existent number plates, speed limit devices, and vehicle overloading throughout the state.

“Each vehicle registration detail is linked to personal information about the owner, including their phone number, address, and name. This information can be vital in tracking and identifying wanted individuals, especially in cases where land transportation is the basic get-away mode of criminals, and perhaps the only mode as a matter of fact.

“The FRSC is committed to utilizing its extensive database of vehicles and drivers to assist in addressing insecurity across the nation.

“This effort is particularly important in Anambra State, where the Governor has implemented various measures to combat insecurity. We are dedicated to ensuring that both drivers and commuters prioritize safety in all their road activities.”

A statement released by Sector Public Education Officer, Margaret Onabe said the FRSC Anambra State Sector Command therefore urged all road users to comply with traffic regulations to avoid penalties.

She noted that the Command is committed to making the roads safer for Anambarians and visitors to the State.
