Security: SEEAT’27 Condemns Ihiala Attack, Urges Presidential Intervention

Following the gruesome attack on a family of four—an elderly man, Kennedy Igboanugo and three women, his two wives and daughter who lost their lives after a brutal onslaught at Isseke community in Ihiala Local Government Area, Anambra State, late on Thursday, May 22, 2025, strong reactions have trailed the incident.
The South East Elders Alliance for Tinubu 2027 (SEEAT’27), an interest group advocating for the re-election of President Ahmed Bola Tinibu in 2027, has called on the presidency to intervene in the escalating security crisis that continues to tarnish Nigeria’s global image. The group, led by Hon. Engr. Humphrey C. Nsofor, FNSE, the National Coordinator and Chris Nnwagboso, PhD, National Secretary, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in Anambra State.
Reacting to the unprovoked attack in Ihiala, which claimed the lives of an elderly man and three female family members, Hon. Nsofor urged President Tinubu to take decisive action. He emphasized that since the Anambra State government has struggled to contain rising insecurity‐particularly in Ihiala Local Government Area, more particularly within Isseke town, Lilu town, Orsumoghu town, Mbosi town, Uli etc; Nnewi South LGA, particularly at Ukpor town, Ezinifite town, Unubi etc, Ogbaru LGA, some parts of Anambra East and West LGAs, the presidency must step in to restore order. He suggested either a direct federal intervention or the declaration of a state of emergency to curb further loss of innocent lives.
Netizens reacting to a Punch Newspapers report on the Ihiala killings have expressed their disappointment, calling on the Anambra State government to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
One Facebook user, Okafor, claimed that the attackers had initially been expelled from Orsu Local Government Area, Imo State through the combined efforts of Ebube-Agu security operatives and the military However, he alleged that the assailants relocated to Isseke, Anambra State, to continue their criminal activities.
