IAWPA Hosts 2025 SDGs Conference, Inducts New Peace Ambassadors in Anambra

Awka, the capital of Anambra State, played host to an engaging and enlightening conference on Thursday, May 22, 2025, as the Anambra State Chapter of the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) organized a high-impact event centered on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The conference, themed “Understanding the Time and Season of Sustainable Development: Matters Arising,” was specifically tailored for students and school administrators, reinforcing IAWPA’s commitment to educating and fostering global peace.
Held at Finotel Hotel, Agu Awka, the event featured inspiring speeches, presentations from various schools, and the induction and award ceremony for distinguished individuals honored as Eminent Peace Ambassadors and Global Diplomats.

The gathering brought together students, teachers, and school proprietors from diverse educational institutions across Anambra State, making it a truly interactive and insightful experience.
One of the pivotal sessions was anchored by Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Nkweke, World Peace Spokesman of IAWPA, who educated students on the roles of individual SDGs, their targets, and measurable indicators.
Delivering a keynote address, IAWPA’s International Director, Amb. Prof. Chidi Ehiriodo, challenged school owners to not only teach the principles of the 17 SDGs, but to also encourage students to apply them practically in daily life.

Prof. Ehiriodo further addressed the political marginalization of youth, lamenting that governance spaces remain dominated by older leaders, limiting opportunities for young people to contribute effectively. However, he expressed optimism, stating that as Nigeria remains a deeply religious nation, faith will create space for the younger generation to rise into leadership roles in the future.
Several schools participated in the conference, presenting thought-provoking topics aligned with the SDGs:
- Emzy Royal College – “Desiderata”
- Blossom Fount College – SDG 4: Quality Education
- Gold Seal College & Schools, Agu-Awka
- “Eradicating the Secondary School Dropout Syndrome in Nigeria”
