NLC Anambra Holds Post-May Day Thanksgiving Servic

The annual May Day, celebrated worldwide as International Labour Day on the 1st of May, has come and gone. However, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Anambra State Council took an extra step by organizing a post-event Thanksgiving service to express gratitude for a successful 2025 Workers’ Day celebration.

On Sunday, May 4, 2025, the State Executive Council (SEC) of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Anambra State, led by, Comrade Sir Humphrey Nwafor, gathered for a Thanksgiving service at St. Jude Catholic Church, Aguoye, Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State.

Coincidentally, the Thanksgiving service aligned with the church’s Fathering Sunday celebration, an event dedicated to honoring fathers and father figures for their contributions to family and society. The atmosphere at St. Jude Catholic Church was spiritually uplifting, as the church service and surrounding activities formed a unique blend of faith and appreciation.

The service featured Catholic chants, testimonies, praise and worship songs, a sermon, and thanksgiving offerings by both fathers of the church and members of the NLC.

In his sermon, which centered on allowing God to use individuals for greater purposes, the presiding priest of St. Jude Catholic Church, Aguoye, Reverend Father Michael Francis Enyosiobi (popularly known as Jeso Nwanna), encouraged Christians to strive for growth and excellence in their endeavors. He emphasized that neglecting responsibilities often hinders progress, as people tend to justify inaction with excuses.

Further addressing the congregation, Reverend Father Jeso Nwanna urged members to embrace values such as philanthropy, noting that acts of kindness have a lasting impact. He contrasted this with evil deeds, which tend to be fleeting and ultimately leave individuals with no positive legacy. He referenced historical criminals whose actions led to their downfall, illustrating the importance of living a life worth remembering.

The service concluded with expressions of gratitude from Reverend Father Jeso Nwanna, who commended the fathers for their dedication in ensuring a successful Fathering Sunday celebration. He also appreciated members of the NLC, acknowledging their decision to worship at St. Jude Catholic Church and offer thanks to God*for a successful May Day event.

Praying for divine blessings and favor, he encouraged the congregation to continue their good works, emphasizing the significance of faith, unity, and selfless service.
