Yobe Targets 80% Vaccination Coverage by 2026

Yobe State aims to achieve 80% immunisation coverage by 2026 as part of intensified efforts to combat vaccine-preventable diseases, Health Commissioner Dr. Mohammed Gana announced during the 2025 World Immunisation Day event in Damaturu.
He cited rising outbreaks of diphtheria, meningitis, and polio as urgent reasons to close immunisation gaps, particularly in hard-to-reach and zero-dose communities.
Officials noted that 17.5% of children in the state remain unvaccinated, with Gulani and Geidam LGAs flagged nationally for high zero-dose rates.
The state is rolling out targeted outreach and catch-up strategies, with support from partners like UNICEF, to reduce zero-dose children by 25% by 2025.
