Xi Pledges Stronger Economic Ties with Bangladesh Amid India Tensions

Chinese President Xi Jinping has vowed to strengthen economic cooperation with Bangladesh following a meeting with President Muhammad Yunus. The visit comes as Bangladesh seeks to offset strained relations with India after Yunus ousted ex-premier Sheikh Hasina, who fled to New Delhi.
Xi assured Yunus of China’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s sovereignty and pledged collaboration in infrastructure, digital economy, and environmental projects. Several economic and cultural agreements are expected to be signed.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh-India ties remain tense, with stalled medical travel and Dhaka seeking Hasina’s extradition. Yunus has also requested a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mend relations.
