President Bola Tinubu, Attorney-General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio are facing a lawsuit over the alleged unlawful removal of Justice Danladi Umar as Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). The suit, filed by two civil society groups and lawyer Comrade Nasir Bala, seeks to prevent the transmission of the National Assembly’s resolution removing Umar. The plaintiffs argue that the removal violated the 1999 Constitution and relevant laws, including the Code of Conduct Bureau & Tribunal Act. They are also challenging the legality of the proposed appointment of a new CCT Chairman. The Federal High Court has adjourned the case to January 14, 2025, and ordered that the legal documents be served via substituted means.
