Five Professors Shortlisted for Acting Vice Chancellor Position at UNN

Former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Professor Polycarp Emeka Chigbu, has clarified that the process of appointing an acting Vice Chancellor for the university is still ongoing.

Prof. Chigbu stated that five professors have been shortlisted and their names have been forwarded to the university’s governing council for consideration and vetting.In response to rumors circulating that he has already been appointed as the acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chigbu issued a statement refuting the claims. He urged the public to disregard any information suggesting that a decision has been made.

“It has come to my attention that reports are circulating online claiming that I have been elected as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. I wish to categorically state that no such appointment has been made. I have not been appointed as the Acting Vice Chancellor, and any reports suggesting otherwise are both false and unsubstantiated,” Chigbu clarified.

He further explained that on August 12, 2024, the university Senate conducted elections among nine candidates, after which five professors were selected. The names of these five candidates have been submitted to the Governing Council, which will make the final decision on who will serve as the acting Vice Chancellor.

Prof. Chigbu emphasized that the process is still in progress, and any media reports claiming otherwise are incorrect and without basis.
